What is a Permanent Impairment Assessment?

A Permanent Impairment Assessment evaluates the extent of a veteran’s long-term health issues resulting from service-related injuries or illnesses. This assessment helps in determining the level of compensation or support a veteran may be eligible for under DVA policies.

Can I have my assessment conducted remotely?

Can Permanent Impairment Assessments be conducted accurately over Zoom, Facetime or What'sApp? Don't they have to be face to face?

Yes, it is possible to conduct medical assessments accurately over Zoom and other telehealth platforms, they do not have to be conducted face to face. With regards to Permanent Impairment Assessments, much of the assessment consists of an interview which can be undertaken over the phone. As for the physical component, the primary focus is to evaluate the mobility of key joints like the back, shoulders, knees, and ankles. This can be quickly and accurately measured through virtual platforms such as Zoom, as supported by several studies.

The use of telemedicine has been growing, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, and many studies have supported its effectiveness in various medical fields including musculoskeletal assessments.

Why is it important to provide all relevant information in my claim?

Submitting a comprehensive claim with all relevant information upfront increases your chances of approval and reduces delays. Dr. Campbell emphasizes accuracy from the start, ensuring that your claim reflects the full scope of your service-related conditions.

What should I bring to my assessment appointment?

If you are attending an in-person assessment, you should bring any relevant medical documents, your service history, and specific information about your health conditions. If your assessment is remote, ensure you have these documents ready for discussion.
